How Low-E Glass Helps

Low-E, short for low-emissivity, glass has a microscopically thin coating that reflects infrared heat while allowing natural light into your home. This coating helps limit heat escaping during colder weather and, depending on the glass selected, reduces unwanted solar heat entering during warmer months.

The right Low-E glass can help your home stay more comfortable without giving up the daylight that makes a space inviting. By improving how your windows manage heat, it can also help reduce the energy needed for heating and cooling.

Different rooms can have different needs. A large west-facing window exposed to afternoon sun may benefit from a different glass selection than a window in a room where retaining winter warmth is the priority. We consider factors such as window orientation, sun exposure, and your home’s existing insulation when recommending a Low-E option.

Giving Vinyl Scrap a New Purpose with EPL Plastics

Our approach to sustainability also includes what happens during manufacturing. Cutting vinyl window profiles to the required dimensions creates offcuts and trim pieces. These leftover materials still have value.

We work with EPL Plastics, our sister company under the same ownership, to divert vinyl manufacturing scrap from disposal into a recycling stream. Located in Brantford, EPL processes our PVC offcuts so the material can be used again in manufacturing.

Through collection, sorting, grinding, and reprocessing, EPL turns this scrap into reusable material. This ongoing partnership helps keep manufacturing offcuts out of landfill and supports the continued use of valuable resources within Ontario.

It is a practical connection between two local businesses: we manufacture windows, and EPL provides the recycling expertise to help manage the vinyl left over from that process.

We were able to price out 3 windows (a large front picture window, a bathroom window and one bedroom window). Quote was sent to us by end of day. The quote was fair and we appreciated how it was broken down by product so we could choose which ones fit in our budget to go forward with. They estimated production would be done in July and our windows were installed later that month. It took two guys about 8 hours to install all three windows, and they look fantastic! We are very happy with our windows and will see how they hold up over time. We have one window left to replace and a few doors... we hope to contact Dayside again in the future.
